Gilly S. Munavalli, MD, MHS, FACMS

Dr. Gilly Munavalli is the medical director and founder of Dermatology, Laser & Vein Specialists of the Carolinas. He first began his dermatology training in residency at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Then, Dr. Munavalli completed dermatologic surgery fellowships in Mohs Micrographic Surgery, cutaneous oncology, facial reconstruction, cosmetic surgery and laser surgery at the University of California at San Francisco. Lastly, were additional phlebology and advanced laser surgery fellowships at the Maryland Laser, Skin & Vein Institute and Johns Hopkins University.

 Dr. Munavalli earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He then earned his Masters of Health Science from the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health, and Doctorate of Medicine from Morehouse Medical School. He also completed an internship at the Mayo Clinic prior to beginning his residency in dermatology. Dr. Munavalli received his Board Certification from the American Board of Dermatology in 2002.

Dr. Munavalli has over 15 years of experience in dermatology. His areas of expertise are diverse and include treatments like tumescent liposuction, blepharoplasty, laser skin resurfacing, facial volume enhancement, fat transfer, as well as laser removal of small blood vessels, birthmarks, acne, tattoos, fine lines and wrinkles.

He currently serves as an Assistant Professor at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine – Department of Dermatology. Dr. Munavalli also serves as a Cosmetic Dermatologic Surgery Fellowship Director for the ASDS. Previously, he spent 4 years on the clinical faculty of Dermatology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD.

On a personal note, Dr. Munavalli is a native of Salisbury, NC and has spent over a third of his life in the Tar Heel state. Dr. Munavalli’s hobbies include reading, exercising, tropical fish keeping, sports and international travel. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Deyne and his son, Vir.


Zena Gabriel, MD, FAAD

Dr. Zena H. Gabriel has over a decade of extensive integrated experience in medical dermatology, surgical dermatology, Mohs Micrographic Surgery and aesthetic treatments. As a board-certified dermatologist, she addresses skin health from a multi-dimensional perspective.

Refreshing and relatable, her refined protocols have distinguished her as an innovator in the dermatology and facial aesthetics community. Emulating our office's value driven philosophy, she incorporates her vast knowledge of 3D volume loss and its effects on the aging face into novel solutions for maintaining a refreshed look without appearing artificial or over-done. Ultimately, clients experience remarkably natural results that go undetected to even the most perceptive eye.

Dr. Zena H. Gabriel has been featured as a dermatology expert in syndicated commercials and seminars alongside major brands like Neutrogena, L’Oreal Paris, Johnson & Johnson and Allergan. She has also been invited as a medical expert to appear on national television to showcase her unique niche and sharp industry perspective. She is actively sought out for honorary industry panel appearances and is the practitioner of choice for a wide variety of discerning celebrity clientele. 

In addition to her accomplished career, Dr. Zena received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkley and obtained her medical degree from the University of California, San Diego. Her dermatology residency was completed at the University of Southern California where she was chosen as Chief Resident for the Department of Dermatology. Currently, she holds a fellowship position with the American Society for Mohs Surgery and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, and is dedicated to the prevention, treatment and surgical removal of skin cancer.
